Identifying Your Skills Made Intuitive & Easy With Skills2Bank
Skills2Bank is a one of a kind platform where you can save your skills and prepare an impressive application. With GenZ-friendly personalized content, take a step towards landing your dream job!
The Need
The team at Skills2Bank approached MakeMyIdea with the idea of building an application that helped youngsters identify their hidden skills and use them to bag their dream job or admission to their dream college. The app was also to serve as a place for employers to convey to youngsters the transferable skills they're looking for and as a hub for to connect employers with suitable talent.
They wanted a team of professionals who could understand their vision and create a safe space for ambitious youngsters that could scale to a million users and chose MakeMyIdea for the task. MakeMyIdea had to develop a user-friendly app that was attractive and engaging enough to entice Gen-Z, while also providing ample opportunity to help them. Our goal was to create a product that would help youngsters prepare for their future while also enjoying the experience with an interface and content that was interesting & engaging.
The Challenge
Since the target audience was the Gen-Z, the main challenge was to make it engaging and appealing to the young generation. We had to account for the short attention span of the young generation as well as the various distractions present on their phone. Our solution had to be power packed and immersive. It had to be quick and direct. It needed to be something that did not require long hours at a stretch but could instead be accessed periodically and become more and more useful over time.
Another challenge was to decide the color palette. Since “skills” are an inanimate entity, we had to look for other inspiration to determine the visual identity. Additionally, we had to ensure that despite being interesting and immersive the color scheme was calming enough so as to not strain the young eye.
MakeMyIdea's Solution
The primary focus of our solution was to keep the user flows as minimal as possible. Gen-Z is known for wanting things quick and we were resolved to give it to them. For the onboarding, we limited app explanation to a single screen. We decided that Email, OTP, Name, Age and Goal were the bare minimum information we'd need to collect to onboard the user and ensure he had an interesting journey in the app. However, that still meant 5 steps. We decided to enliven things up with engaging content like "Hi There!" "That's me!" "I want to" etc.
Next, we knew we couldn't expect the Gen-Z users to search for information by skills/activities. These were youngsters used to a personalised feed in social apps and so we decided to have a personalised feed of our own. The feed would contain skills posts made by various employers and be personalised according to age and goal. Every Individual post includes a large immersive image, a heading and short concise skill example that was designed to be a 2-3 min read at max. Over time, based on the users actions, the content would keep getting personalised even further. Alongside a personalised feed, we also created an area for the young users to search for a post by Skill Category or Activity Category.
Posts that the user likes can easily be saved to the bank and then accessed before an interview or application for a quick refresher of their own skills from the SkillsBank. Additionally, users could reference a large list of concise tips and tricks to prepare for interviews and applications. This list also included information specifically written for the differently abled, so as to not leave anyone out.
To keep costs to a minimum the app was built using scalable architecture- a pay as you use mechanism that kept the cost of the application low. In addition, we kept the features as minimal as possible so as to enable an early launch. Other ideas like an employer wall, ability for employers to notify their followers, ability for users to add notes when they save a skill etc. were added into the pipeline, some of which were finished within weeks after the MVP.
